Upon leaving school, Lesley dropped the usage of her first name, and is now called only by her second name, Gaye.
Gaye did her nursing training at Groote Schuur hospital, then worked there for a while after qualifying. She spent a year in Namibia, then married and returned to Cape Town, where she lived until moving to England in 1999 with her daughter Ceri. She has home schooled Ceri since she was 9, and her daughter is a creative person and gifted writer. After Gaye's divorce in 1989, she started nursing at weekends, and taught Ceri and ran a cottage industry from home during the week.
On arriving in England she obtained the post of manager at a sheltered housing scheme for the elderly, and has recently transferred to a larger scheme, in a more pleasant part of Essex. Ceri is now in her last year of "school", and intends studying through the Open University and Open College of the Arts. Gaye is pursuing her interest in textile art, and hopes to study it more formally in time.
