After leaving school, Lucinda studied at Wits Technicon and qualified as a microbiologist. She worked at Clover Dairies and then Naarden International, before finally joining Carnation Foods which was bought by Nestle in 1986. She has been with Nestle since then. She changed fields from microbiology to quality assurance, and then in 1999 did a diploma in technical packaging. She has been fortunate to have worked in South Korea for two years (2001-2003), and is currently based in Switzerland where she has been since 2008.

Outside of work, Lucinda's passion is long-distance running, and she has completed 16 Comrades and 15 Two Oceans ultra marathons. She has represented Gauteng athletics at both cross country and marathon national championship level several times. She also completed one 94.7 cycle race. She still enjoys running, and has learnt how to downhill ski in the past three years.
