Oliver graduated from Wits University with a MBBCh in 1982, and from the University of Natal - FCS(SA) Anaesthesiology. He has a busy private anaesthetic practice in Durban, where he spends most of his time doing neuroanaesthesia.
Oliver married Janet Dixon and they have three children. Kyle (19) studied at the University of Natal, where he played rugby, pushed weights in the gym, and was a bit of a maths boffin. He now works for an IT company. Jade (17) is doing beauty therapy. She is also a keen swimmer, and is the arty one of the family. Dale (15) is in matric, and is a keen swimmer and has his Natal Coastal colours as well as Durban and Districts colours for chess. Oliver and Janet were divorced in 2005. Oliver has subsequently met Vanessa (see picture below), and they were married in December 2006.
Oliver is a keen long distance open water swimmer, with a couple of Midmar Miles under the belt.
