The unique experience of hot-air ballooning is, essentially, an elegant, eccentric adventure in space and time and promises an excitement all of its own. In the gentle light of dawn, hover at treetop height for a chat or a wave to a local farmer as you pass. Or, if you wish and conditions permit, your captain can fly you to dream among the clouds. Sipping fine champagne, you can savour panoramic views of the Magalies River Valley and Hartebeespoort Dam area and even see the skyline of Johannesburg 75 km to the south-east. After landing, it's back to base to enjoy a superb, freshly prepared champagne brunch. Bill and Mary Harrop have been running their daily, licensed, non-scheduled Air Transport Service since 1981, the oldest established hot-air balloon operator in Southern Africa and a member of SATSA. Special Select Ballooning Lodges packages are available. Guests dine and stay overnight in elegant lodges or country houses close to the take-off field, as a prelude to a most memorably enjoyable Balloon Safari the next morning.
