Stephan lived in Leondale and Randburg before returning to the UK in 1988.
Career-wise, he started working at United Building Society in 1977, and studied at Damelin for a Diploma in Financial Management in 1980. He qualified as a Chartered Secretary in 1984, and worked his way up to Company Secretary for the Gencor company, Northern Trust, until he returned to the UK.
Stephan has been very successful in managing financial services firms. For the past twelve years or so, he has worked in the field of Regulatory Compliance. This included a period of working in the Regulatory Consulting Practice of Deloitte & Touche in Bristol, as well as Compliance/Company Secretary for Mercedes Benz Financial Services in Milton Keynes.
He married Mandy Pilley from Glenhazel in 1980 and had three lovely children: Bronwen (1984), Christopher (1987), and Megan (1993). Stephan and Mandy later divorced (1997) and he has since remarried Diane (2000).
Stephan is still very much into his music, and released a single in South Africa in 1982, and a number of his demos received airplay over the years. He continues to play guitar and record, and has developed his studio from a four-track portastudio, to an 8-track reel to reel, and now it is computer-based.
He first came back to South Africa for a holiday in 1992, but now regularly spends 4-5 months of the year at their place in Mossel Bay, splitting their time between the children and grandkids in both countries.
