John Francis Slater purchased the farm 'Stilgenoeg' in 1857, and renamed it 'Carnarvondale'. It is situated in the Paterson District. The original homestead was burnt down by Xhosa during the Frontier War of 1846-1847. The farm was later owned by his grandson Guybon.
